Subject: Starting from scratch
Message #235353
I will preclude this question with an "I am not worthy, but...:)" due to the vast audacity of it. I am entering the Logic/Mac world after having buried my head in the sand for years composing/arranging and some filmscoring with just paper, pencil, and a stopwatch (and depending on others for the tech part). Ahh, that feels much better, now that I got that off my chest... I am comparing estimates for the following workstation: Mac Pro 2.66, 4GB Ram, 250GB HD1, 500GB HD2, 500GB HD3, 23" Monitor, Logic Pro 8, Vienna Orchestra, RME Fireface 800, Mic and Audio Monitors to be decided. I came to this setup just by reading stuff on the internet. My use for this will be mainly with MIDI sounds and just a few solo instruments recorded at home. It would be a final product on a few projects and just for mockups on others before going into a real studio (often for scoring visual media). I intend to buy a tutorial but my real question is (don't laugh)--what do I do when I finally get home with all this stuff that I don't know how to use? I have a million pieces (of my music) that I need to get done and I sincerely would like to avoid huge, idiot mistakes that could have been avoided. Should I get someone to set it up for me (talking hardware and software) or am I overly anxious? My "fear" is partly from having seen even experts get stuck on the most seemingly simple glitches. Thanks for your patience!! John
