Subject: [LUG] CPU usage and VSTs
Message #232011
This is a reply to #232000.
I have just become aware of something I’m sure many of you are already aware of, and that is the issue of CPU usage when using VST plug-ins. I have a P4, 2ghz, 2GB RAM PC, and am using FM8, Absynth, Massive, Wavestation, Dimension Pro and Z3ta+, all with Logic 5.5.1 I just started noticing that when CPU usage gets over 35%, the sound of the VST becomes distorted and then the VST shuts down completely. After literally 2 or 3 hours of intense troubleshooting, I figured out that if I disable the little programs that start when Windows starts (Norton, AOL, Napster, Foldershare, Logmein, etc…..) the plug-in work and there is no distortion. MY QUESTION IS….. Is there a program that will allow me, on reboot to decide which programs start and which don’t? My plan is to boot with all programs under normal circumstances and only boot with needed programs when I’m doing sequencing. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help! Chaz
