It was only after I upgraded to 10.4.10 from 10.4.7 that things started going wrong. Even Garageband refused to open. Maybe newer macs with Tiger already installed fare better? (I have a G5 dual 1.8 PPC) I tried re-installing express but i think something was lost in the upgrade. Also when I did a clean install from my system disk it failed to install garageband and iphoto - I'm glad I backed those up! I've been using macs for 15 years and never had as big a problem before. Maybe this was an isolated problem. Got it working again so I'm happy!
