Apart from the number of tracks, plug ins, etc., there is another big
difference between today and 1967 : many of us tend to spend hours
recording music alone, at home. While this was sort of an
"experimental" attitude in the early 70's (see Mc Cartney and his
first solo album) it has become very common.
In order to (sort of) compensate the feeling of isolation during my
home studio sessions, I have connected the individual outs of my MOTU
Traveler to several audio systems : two guitar amps, one bass amp,
and a stereo system for the drums. This way, if I close my eyes while
tracking a voice, I can easily imagine there is a real band all
around me.
