I had a LaCie die on me. Lost enough data even with backups to not trust
them again. The drives that I think do the trick and are quite a bit more
robust for audio and video are Other World Computing¹s Mercury Elite
series
and Glyph. OTWs are very well priced, Glyphs are a little more expensive,
but keep in mind, if you¹re doing audio recording and playback, plus
sample
playback, you¹re really working your drives. I wouldn¹t be so
quick to look
for the cheapest drive I could buy. I¹d spend a little more and be
looking
for quality. How much would it cost you if you lost 1T of data? And, how
do you back up 1T of data without another 1T drive? I use SCSI for video
and have lost 3 Seagate Cheetahs along the way. I was told by an exec at
Western Digital that using a multimedia drive for more than a year is
taking a bet without terrific odds. My (totally backed up) Glyph is over
five years old and still going strong.
