LC Xmu will allow you to remap the fixed BCF/LC button layout to your
liking - Behringer's idea of the most-useful LC buttons (and their
proprietary "upper-shift" & "lower-shift" modifier
combos to access
more) are not necessarily the best choice of LC buttons for any given
workflow.
It also provides an emulation of the real LC's screen that can be
scaled to match the BCF channel spacing - very useful for figuring out
where you are and what you're doing, because Logic's LC-support is
VERY deep.
If you use multiple LC/MC-aware hosts (Logic, TotalMix, Live, Reason,
etc) at once, LC Xmu will let you switch or split the controller
between those without conflict.
If using it via LC Xmu, you'll need to prevent Logic from seeing the
BCF hardware port - with the BCF connected via its own USB, this is
best done using MIDIPipe's port "hijack" ability after LC Xmu
starts
(before starting Logic).
Note that the BCF faders are not touch-sensitive, which means you
can't write a very slow ramp or constant-value automation, since Logic
doesn't know whether you're still touching the fader or not.
I'd suggest you start using the BCF/LC without LC Xmu to get used to
basic stuff first, then try LC Xmu to see if it expands your horizons...
