Hank, delete that Multi Instrument and create just an "Instrument"
from the environment's New menu. Then name that instrument DX7.
Those 16 buttons on the Multi instrument relate to midi channels. The
Multi instrument was designed for Multitibral Instruments that can
receive more than one midi channel at a time. Your DX7 can receive
only one channel at a time.
Next, ignore the patch names in the list of program changes. Just use
numbers. PG's 1-32 will select DX patches 1-32 and PG's 33-64 will
select DX cartridge voices.
If you have a REALLY early DX7 they could only receive on Midi
channel 1. Later one's allowed reception on any channel from 1 - 16.
Simply set the midi channel of the instrument to be the same as the
channel you set the DX to receive on. Use this instrument as the
recording track on your arrange page.
That's about it...
R8 is a similar setup from memory since I THINK it can only receive
on one channel at a time. MV 30 I can't remember but either way
simply use a single instrument or Multi Instrument as is appropriate.
There's not a lot more to it than this...
Good luck
