Subject: [LUG] Personal MIDIocy 01: DX7 In My Environment
Message #226887
I've been running Logic Pro 6.4.3 under OS9.2.2 for a long time, as an audio machine, nevermind MIDI. I've moved now to 10.3.9 and have need of getting Logic working with my ancient MIDI devices, starting with my brown (!) DX7. Via LSA it now shows up in my environment in the MIDI Instruments layer as a multi-instrument. How do those 16 buttons relate to what a DX7 offers? There are 32 voices available from the DX7, plus another 32 from the cartridge. The internal voices include some very nice edited voices (backed up on a cartridge), and I assume I'll have to type in the names of those. Clicking on the first button yields a list of voices much longer than what's offered by the DX7. The selection panel under Device Name currently says "No Bank specified. Names of bank 0 used". What should I select there? And how do I deal with the difference between what the DX7 offers and what's listed? Is the cartridge another Bank? Under Short Device Name there are several selections offered. What is appropriate for a DX7? (Warning: this is the first in a hopefully short series of such queries. Roland R-8M and MV-30 are next.) TIA! -- ha
