Subject: [LUG] 18 tracks of silence
Message #226884
I am recording a Jazz band on Thursday and am hoping my set-up will handle 18 simultanious audio tracks at a time. I use Logic Express 7.1 and a RME FF800 with a Behringer Pro-8 connected via lightpipe (I don't use the Pro-8's pres) connected to an iBook G4 1.4 mHz w/ 1GB Ram via FW400 and a Lacie d2 250GB drive. I have had no trouble at all at 12 tracks, (44.1/ 24bit) but it was suggested to me that I might test whether or not 18 tracks will be too much by arming all 18 tracks than just recording silence for 15 minutes or so and see if the system chokes. My question: Is that really a fair test or is it less taxing in the system to write silence to the drive? Thanks, Stuart Holmes Holmestudio Music
