Subject: SysEx Fader for Triton Rack...
Message #225456
I typically use my Triton Rack in MultiMode. Suppose I want to control an editable program parameter such as Filter Frequency with a fader set to transmit system exclusive messages. The simplest way to do is to expose the fader's SysEx event list, click on the "Midi In" button and then alter the Filter Frequency parameter from the Triton's menu system. That's fine. Unfortunately, the Triton menu system does not allow access to program parameters when in MultiMode. One must first switch to "Program Mode" and then activate that mode's menu system. I hope you see where this is going... It's extremely counter-productive to switch Triton modes while working. Let's say there are multiple tracks in play, and they collectively trigger several different MIDI channels on the Triton operating in MultiMode. Suppose I want to define a SysEx fader for a sound's parameter currently assigned to MIDI channel 3. In this scenario I'm not interested in loading a full-fledged Triton environment; I'm only interested in a single SysEx fader. After I create the fader, I'm forced to switch out of MultiMode into Program Mode. Naturally, this wreaks havoc on playback. The track in question is communicating on the port's channel 3. Now, one option is to change it two channel one in the multi-instrument options, which isn't such a good idea as any unintended alterations (eg, mistaken program change) will affect all other tracks using that multi-instrument on that MIDI channel. Okay, so I move on over to the Triton Rack and change its base MIDI channel to 3. Argh... My intent is to simply audition the parameter control. Basically, I'd like to loop a few measures, and play around with the SysEx fader in real time, including reassigning which parameter I wish to control and affecting these changes in real time. As it stands the Triton's menu limitation truly interrupts the creative work flow. My question follows. I'd like to avoid digging into the Triton's MIDI implementation for the SysEx message that encompasses the Filter Frequency parameter. Does anyone have a viable solution? I don't mean to single out the Triton, as the problems occurs with any synth functioning in MultiMode not having a very navigable menu system. Thanks for your help. Cheers...
