Good point. If you can isolate a few horn players
and give them phones they can lay down a guide
track with the rhythm section. But this could
also lead to blown chops for the brass players! I
once did a project where I gave the
leader/arranger/trombone player a handheld mic,
and he sang horn cues through the phones to the
rhythm section from the control room while they
tracked, and this worked really well. Of course,
someone in the band has to be willing to take on that sometimes silly job!
