Hi,
I'm using my copy of Logic 7 for the first time today (bought it ages ago
but been too busy to use it!).
Earlier in the day I recorded a fabulous Ludwig Stainless Steel drum kit
that I've been lucky enough to have for a few weeks. What I want to do is
edit the recordings into individual hits and turn them into what I would
call a 'sample library' (I don't know if my use of terminology is correct,
as I'm very inexperienced with Logic), and then be able to trigger them from
the keyboard of my Oxygen8 or program drum parts in some kind of grid
editor.
I've spent the entire evening from 6pm - 10pm reading through various
sections of the manuals, and eventually giving up on them and just trying to
follow my intuition... I used to run Logic Big Box prior to this, and
therefore had no sampler capabilities, so I'm hoping that I can get to grips
with the EXS24 etc. But I must admit that I haven't got the stomach for
endless hours of poring over manuals and searching the internet, esp when it
gets me nowhere...
My first step was to use the glue tool to turn the 2 mono channels I'd
recorded into a stereo file. The next step was to use the scissor tool to
chop the audio up, and then I was going to name and save all the individual
beats according to type: Ki01 / Ki02 etc, for a range of kick drum
velocities etc.
However, when I tried the 'Save Region As' command it didn't save the region
as a new file to the specified folder, and, bizarrely and inexplicably - to
me at any rate - when I then went back to chopping up audio from the arrange
window, double-clicking on audio regions no longer opened them up in the
sample editor. I tried to get to grips with this, but got nowhere, so simply
saved, quit and re-opened the 'song' file.
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that I'm barking up the wrong tree
anyway... Does anyone know the most efficient way to achieve the goal I'm
after, and is there an online resource where such info is clearly and simple
set forth? Any help greatly appreciated!
Seb
