Hi Kaplan!
I have a similar configuration, Mac Pro 2,66 with 828mk2. Most of
the time it runs smoothly, even when I run multiple Kontakt
instruments, EXSs etc. Apart from Altiverb and Melodyne I use
only logics own plugs. A thing that I know will cause Logic to
unexpectedly quit on my system is to max out the ram. I have 4 Gb
installed and Logic hit the ceiling the other day at around 40
sampler instruments, A few Kontaks but mostly exs. I have also
experienced crashes on inserting audio directly onto the arrange
window from finder using a key command and also when clicking the
bounce button on the master output but that has only happened on
very large sessions and I suspect it's a ram issue.
Like you I sometimes need to reboot after these crashes, it is not
as stabile as Logic 7.1.1 on my G5 but it is not at all as bad as
your situation which sounds extraordinary. Your configuration is
capable of working nicely.
How much ram do you have installed? I have 4 which is not at all
enough but the sessions are huge before that becomes a problem.
When I hit the ram-ceiling I fiddled around with the exs' virtual
memory settings and purged the Kontakt instruments and that did
the job.
Have veryfied/repaired disk permissions? Are you experiencing other
kind of problems with the Mac? Have you tried searching out which
sampler instrument og group causes the cue crashes? Ram could be
the problem...
I don't know what you did when you switched to intelmac but if
you migrated the system from an older computer like I did you
could be experiencing oddities from that process also, unlikely
maybe but possible.
Hope this helps and that you will be able to fix the problem in
time.
Regards
Ginge
