If I remember correctly, the images are written to the audio file's
resource fork. Other than other filesystems where you have a fixed
number of reserved bytes for each file to store permissions, creation
date etc, the Apple filesystems can use an unlimited amount of space
to write information _about_ a file outside the actual file data. If
you export these files to another system using software that is aware
of this (for example by copying it to a Windows-formatted drive
attached to your mac), the information of the resource fork will be
placed in separate hidden files.
The resource fork holds things like the icon, the filetype and
application it should be opened with (this is why OSX can remember
that two files with the same extension should be opened with two
different applications), and anything any specific application wants
to add. I believe this is where Logic puts the waveform image.

You won't need to, but it might be nice for security (however you
could also just backup now and then - you should do that anyway). :o)

I don't know how PT deals with waveform images, but I guess Logic and
PT will either each create their own waveforms and leave the other
one's image alone, or they will be able to use each other's wave form
images, or, the least likely scenario, they'll conflict somehow and
will keep creating new waveforms each time you change from one to the
other.
Anyway, since the waveform image is non-vital information that can be
recreated whenever its needed, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Even if you did destructive editing on either one of the platforms.
Maurits.
