No, it's not supposed to work that way. You should see a UAD icon in the dock, which opens the UAD driver. This should tell you which UAD software is on your G4. Make sure you download the latest from www.uaudio.com. In Tiger UAD plugins should work perfectly normal, maybe you have a real old version there.
