My system consist of:
MAC G5 Dual 2.7 ghz
4 gig Ram
OSX 10.4
Logic 7.2
Final Cut Pro 3
Two internal 250 gig SATA 7200 rpm drives (came with computer)
One External Maxtor "One Touch III" 300 gig Firewire 400/USB 2.0
hard drive
Before I turn on my system for the first time, I would like advice on the
following, I will be using lots and lots of samples, not only for the EXS24
but I will be purchasing other sample librarys and players, I.E. BFD drums,
Various Symphonic Orchestra software samplers and libraries, etc. Therefore,
I have the following questions:
1) Can I store Samples for the EXS 24 and the other software samplers and
their libraries on another drive besides the one where Logic is loaded, for
example the other internal 250 gig SATA 7200 rpm drive?. Or say just the
sample libraries for all the sample players, then load the samples when I
want to use them.
2) If I can use the other internal 250 gig drive for storing samples I am
considering installing a PCI SCSI card (latest, fastest and most capacity?)
and connecting a high speed (transfer rate and data through put) SCSI
external hard drive, say 15000 to 18000 rpm, to record my audio to, in Logic
and Final Cut Pro. I would then use the External Maxtor 300 gig for storing
finished audio products. I have been told that SCSI is old technology, but
it's specs are still much faaster than SATA, etc. Besides, I have never used
SATA 7200 rpm drives to recrod directly to, I have always used SCSI drives
and never had a glitch. Previously, I had a dual processor G4 running OSX 9
and Logic 6, recording directly to SCSI, then storing completed projects to
external drives, and it worked flawlesslywith no problems, transfer delays,
etc. I really need the advice prior to going live. as I would rather be safe
than sorry as I do this for a living. Any and all advice, including
realistic constructive feed back is much appreciated. :?: :?: :?:
