The cheapest audio interface is the built-in interface of the Mac. Just plug your line source in. It doesn't offer superior quality of course. Next one: if you have a usual microphone you cannot connect it directly to the Mac. You can still stay on the cheap side if you buy one of these small mixers with mic preamps (Behringer's for example) and plug it into the Mac. The mixers are available for around $100. Audio interfaces below $100 are available but you might only get one input and output. Expect at least $250 for a reasonable device. M- Audio, Edirol, Behringer, for example. Audio interfaces with really good sound start around $500, todays "standards" for studios are beyond the $1000 mark. > i'd also like to know what kind > of midi interface i should buy to use with logic? or is there such > thing as audio/midi interface in one? Most audio interfaces above $250 have MIDI on board. If you think about a small keyboard for soft synths either, something like the M-Audio Ozone might be interesting. 25 keys, few knobs, audio and MIDI for $300. I don't know about the audio quality. --- Please check the actual prices yourself, I just scanned my usual dealer websites where most prices are in Euro. ___ Peter Ostry
