For the Rhodes, it was the weight. The DX7 came out with its
excellent Rhodes emulation, and Rhodes were gone seemingly overnight.
In fact, (real keys players might disagree- I'm a guitarist) there's
no question in my mind that guys would have preferred to continue to
play a real Rhodes to a DX7 if they had weighed the same- at least
the guys who did their own schlepping, which would have been the guys
playing through guitar amps. For the Clavinet, which I always
thought was a cool sound, I think it was more that it was just
limited to a funky style that had its day and then passed. And again,
if you don't have a roadie, why bring another keyboard if it's not an
essential one?
Sorry. OT, I'm sure. Just remembering the old days, I guess.
