My question stems mainly from a lack of understanding of what really my
soundcard is doing. Right now I'm running Logic Pro on a powerbook G4 using
its built-in soundcard, which may or may not be the reason that I can never
satisfactorily reach the level of sound clarity and quality that I want.
The problem seems most apparent when I'm mixing a number a voices (e.g.,
synthesizers) together -- I often hear a slight bit of what might be noise,
but what more generally could be described as a lack of clarity. Initially
I thought, well, maybe my mixing/ mastering abilities weren't up to par, but
the problem seems to remain no matter what I do. All that I have been doing
is internally based in logic, no recording or outside applications. Also,
there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my headphone jack, given that
I can play tunes in itunes etc. without any problems. I guess my question,
then -- would a good soundcard improve my sound quality, given my
circumstances as I've described them? If so, any recommendations on a
really good soundcard, particularly for use in conjunction w/ logic? Any
help would be hugely appreciated! -Kevin
