Your original idea of using multiple incidents of the channel strip
settings on each track and then automating the bypass function for
each insert is working quite nicely. John P. who has also posted on
this thread believes, as I do, that the bypassed plugins do not use
CPU time, so I simply make sure there's a few seconds between songs
and make sure to bypass the active insert slot before activating the
next and it works like a charm.
