I'm using a Formac FW800 dual-drive case connected to a LaCie FW800 cardbus card in my (FW400 only) TiBook. RME Fireface 800 is connected to the TiBook FW400 port. I have 80G Seagate and 160G Western Digital 7200rpm drives in the case, with the (noisy) internal fan removed and the case stood on end for better convective ventilation. This combination has been very fast, and very reliable. I highly recommend using a separate FW bus for the drive and audio interface if you're using FW audio. Note I often record to a partition of the powerbook internal 5400rpm drive anyway for easy portability (the drive is plenty fast enough), and use the external drive to hold projects in progress, moving the recorded audio to it later.
