This is the hardest task since no compiler can do this for you. However, multi-processors do come in handy where the tasks are independent. One task is destined to do window refresh, another might be taking care of I/O, and others might be working the math/sync involved in implementing the algorithms. But, in essence, the main computation is carried out by a single processor.
