Thanks Klaus,
This indeed did the trick. I guess it's an os9 thing and the new Sound
Manager control panel. The older os doesn't have an external mic and an
line input setting. Bias Peak requires the line input, where as LAM seems
to require the mic input. Unfortunately this makes it impossible to use
both programs simultaniously for this function. Seems as though once either
of them boots that it "takes control" of all the audio input
settings,
preventing you from switching them without closing out the program.
The other thing I've noticed is that by using the ext mic setting for LAM,
the audio is VERY low. Much too low for a noise free recording. The line
input setting seems to provide the expected levels (when compared to my
tape's output meters). I don't know why this is. Do you think it's due to
my input plug? I know the inputs on the older macs used a different length
plug to access different internal connections to the motherboard via the
same input jack. This is how they know when you're using a mic or a line
signal. I would think that the G4 would follow the same convention (I'm
using the same cables I use on my 7100 mac), but there's no
guarrantee...they seem to have changed everything else in the audio system.
Neither Peak or LAM seem to be seemless when working with the new
hardware/software a/v system. Peak does record directly from the CD (or any
other audio source playing in the mac), but it too is a little buggy in its
settings. It takes a bunch of button pressing and trips back and forth
between control panles to eventually get it to "recognize" the
audio as it
passes through the system. Once you get it going it seems to work until you
have to change it for another program. It's a drag, but I'm hoping that all
of that will be a moot point once I get a real audio I/O card happening.
Thanks again,
Subala
