This is a reply to #21446.

A while ago a Emagic supporter told me to use a certain version of Apple HD driver, with a specific audio card, to use with logic. Otherwise it would not record more than 4 minutes. So any questions/informations about such an important thing like HDs and their drivers may be relevant for the group. On the other side, threads about how fast BeOS runs on a PC seems to be OT for me:-) > I am about to take delivery of an IBM Ultrastar U2W > 9.1GB drive, 68 -> 50pin adaptor, 50-pin ribbon cable and internal > terminator, all of which I intent to install in the spare 3.5" bay of my > beige G3/233 desktop. not a good idea. The beige G3 has a slow SCSI and it is the same bus like the outside connector, and that means you may get not more than 16-18 tracks. If you buy a U2W drive (UW would be enough anyway), get a UW accelerator card like the Adaptec 2940 or Formac Pro Raid also. > I'm a little nervous that my inexperience might hamper my efforts, so I > would be grateful if anyone who has performed this upgrade could give me > some hints and tips, eg: how should I set the jumper settings on the drive? > How does the G3 recognise an unformatted drive and with which software > should I format it? You may use the newest version (or the version that came with your system) of Apple drive setup or alternatively HDT 3.02 or higher. HDT gives you maybe 2 more tracks but might make trouble since it is not 100% OS9 compatible. cu klo ----------------------- Klaus Lotz e-mail: klo@... http://www.musicshop.de http://www.chrom.de/home/pogatschar (Mac9600/G3/250MHz/OS9/PT24Mix/2xOldFarms/2xSCell/Magma/U-DMA-Raid,MiroDC20)
