Hi Dave
I have recorded a number of live concerts with a Toshiba P4 2.8
notebook, onto FW HDs - on different occasions Maxtor and Lacie,
using the RME Multiface and ADI 8 Pro AD-DA unit, up to 16 tracks of
24 bit 44,1 khz audio, using LAWP 5.5.1 and Nuendo. I always set the
highest I/O Buffer value, and it is a good idea to test beforehand.
In your case, with two FW devices, you might want to consider
picking up a PCMCIA Firewire adapter - this might help spread the
load, so to speak, as opposed to daisy chaining the onyx and a FW HD
on the IBMs FW slot. Plugging the drive into a desktop computer
afterwards shouldn't be a problem - I have even been able to read and
copy audio from an NTFS formatted external drive onto my G5 with OS
10.3.9 and Tiger.
HTH, kind regards
