The consideration against shared video/system-RAM is not so much a memory issue but a speed issue; the display updates (I mean sending the data to the screen 70 times a second) happen through the same bus as the CPU's memory access. So like in the good ol' Atari Falcon, higher resolutions slow down your computer.
