How can i accomplish this? Automation would certainly achieve what you want, but for a really crisp effect, another easy way would be to solo the track, select a range and Bounce To Disk. Then you could import the bounced file, place it exactly in place of the original guitar and cut it off at the appropriate moment. This eliminates the possibility that the out-of-control tape delay is still looping feedback when you re-automate the track level back up.
