Stupid question, just in case...
Did you check the Sample Rate of the recorded files? Maybe they are
at 44.1 while the session you are playing them from is set to 48k --
they'd sound fast and pitched up. (Or maybe they got recorded with
some weird "pull-down" sample rate.) In which case they need SR
convert, not pitch-shifting....
You can see the file's actual sample rate by showing file info in the
Audio Window.
