Subject: OT: installing SCSI drive into G3
Message #21446
Hi people Sorry for the OT post. I am about to take delivery of an IBM Ultrastar U2W 9.1GB drive, 68 -> 50pin adaptor, 50-pin ribbon cable and internal terminator, all of which I intent to install in the spare 3.5" bay of my beige G3/233 desktop. I'm a little nervous that my inexperience might hamper my efforts, so I would be grateful if anyone who has performed this upgrade could give me some hints and tips, eg: how should I set the jumper settings on the drive? How does the G3 recognise an unformatted drive and with which software should I format it? Any tips about connecting the drive up to the motherboard successfully? Many thanks, and apologies again for going OT. Harry.
