The Lacie D2 drives are quite good (not the Porsche ones, they suck!). These plug into an AC outlet. They're 7200RPM. Are there 7200RPM drives that don't require AC power, and just suckle from the USB or FW current? Although the USB2 spec says 480Mb/s and FW400 says 400Mb/s, USB sucks up CPU horsepower but FW doesn't. So it's not a clearcut situation where USB2 is 80Mb/s faster - not all other things are equal. f-erenc szabo, smarty pants Z+E+R+O+B+E+A+T "NOW POWERED BY THE MIRACLE OF THE TRANSISTOR!" <http://home.goodmedia.com/~zerobeat>
