Anyone who has been following the UAD-1 Mac thing has a pretty good
idea that Apples use of the AMD8131 chip is the cause of the Mac issues.
And to stand up for UA, I have 2 UAD-1's and have found that UA
continually add new plug-ins to the package (paid as they may be),
and have allowed me to finally have the sound of a Roland Dimension D
to mix with, one of my all time favorite processing units.
FYI You can get the nest performance out of the UAD-1 (up to about
95%) if you use a smaller number of the larger DSP using plug-ins,
even on a G5 (I've tested this for real and know it as a fact).
Take the Fairchild 670, the Plate 140, the DD, the Precision Limiter
(the best sounding limiter out I think), the Pultec Pro... I could go
on and on.
I'll be interested to hear how close they get with the Neve channel
they have announced.
One last thing: I'd suggest that one would have a hard time getting a
$ for $ quality VS price out of most other plug-in packages,
especially if you look at the amount of DSP one gains by using the card.
Just my 2 cents....
