On my Power Mac G5 2x2.7, I removed “default” 512Mb and installed Kingston
2Gb instead, but I didn’t notice any performance improvement in terms of
audio tracks/plugins quantity.
I did a test project: 38 separate and simultaneous audio tracks (stereo
24bit/48khz) and approx. 88 Platinum Verbs. Buffer size = 64. If I add one
more Platinum Verb or one more Audio track, then Logic stops.
So, after installing 2Gb instead of 512Mb – I have the same performance as
with 512Mb: the same possible 38 tracks/88 plugins. Again, adding more
tracks or more plugins “stops” the Logic.
Another test project includes CPU-heavy “Sculpture” preset. With 512Mb, I
hear clicks and pops, if I play more than 5 notes simultaneously. So, here
is exactly the same situation with 2Gb installed… Buffer size = 128.
Am I missing something? It seems strange that 2Gb RAM didn’t change
anything.
Thank you for your help!
