There are few controls and they have clearly audible and appreciable effects, which to me is what you want if you're not a very experienced mastering engineer. It has a little colour if you shove super hot levels into it, but don't all of these limiters/loudenizers under such circumstances? Any opinions on this one?) I was going to say this was one AU I could never get to run in Logic 7. It never passed the validation test for me. I even had ongoing email correspondence with the guy who ported it and we couldn't work it out. But it seems to be working for you - so I guess I was just jinxed or something! If we segue into some aesthetic discussion though, if you're mixing and mastering your own material, hopefully you'll have enough control over the source sounds that you wouldn't need to use a multiband compressor. Right? Right guys!? Like everyone else around here I've read Bob Katz's book and he describes multiband as a kind of damage control for material that's brought to him with mix issues. I think the word 'deadly' is even in there someplace. From my own experience with multiband as well, I've never found a successful use for it. It heavily colours sound if used to loudenise, and if used for any other kind of aural surgery (like last night, I wanted to compress some squishy electro drums, but not the middle range of them), I've always found an alternative solution which is less drastic and sounds better. Since I'm producing electronica entirely in the box, I tend to have excellent control over every sound source, so I guess maybe that's why I can't find any use for multiband.
