Well I have the Platinum Bundle and the Musicians Bundle (which I only
bought to get doubler as they don't sell it on it's own)
Both my versions are current and up to date but assuming (and it's a pretty
safe assumption) that Waves will make it so that Mac Intel support is only
available to people covered by a WUP, it will cost me just under $400 just
to make my current software work on what will then be the current Mac. My
WUP expired in Oct 2004 and my versions are still current so look how many
great updates Waves released in that time for all the money I could have
paid out on WUP! :-(
Personally I think it's so wrong that I've been trying like many, to
find alternatives that are cheaper to maintain.
I now only use the stereo imager and the Ren Channel and I've signed up
to the current group buy as I hope that WaveArts trackplug will replace Ren
Channel.
The once vital L3 has been replaced in my set up by the vastly superior
Powercore MD3, the Ren compressors by the UAD analogue emulations.
Both of these companies consistently supply updates FREE.
As for Apple charging for it's updates, the update that got me all the
previously chargeable add ons, bundled in was a complete steal and the one
that got me Sculpture, Ultrabeat, Guitar Amp, and the various other plugs
was also great value. All you get with Waves is "pay us in case there
is an
upgrade". So wrong. Now you have to buy an iLok if you want to DEMO
their
new products!
As soon as I find a replacement for Waves Stereo Imager, I will have
have no further need of Waves. I just hope I get one before I get an Intel
Mac!
If you are thinking of buying Waves I strongly advise against it. I've
been a customer of theirs for 8 years and have always appreciated the
quality of the product, however they are now in market where many companies
offer similar products with equal or better quality and no "golden
handcuffs".
Rant over!
Gareth
