Subject: [LUG] Clues to mp3 import problem
Message #202348
A couple of weeks ago someone posted that they were having problems importing mp3s and I said we were also, but intermittently. I have found a few more clues as to why this is the case and would appreciate thoughts on this from Mac system mavens as I think that's where the problem lies. We have found that if we download an mp3 sent by email to one computer, then transfer it to the Logic computer, we can't always get Logic to convert the file. Not only that, but when we then convert in in Peak and import the resultant .aif file into Logic it gives us an error message that says this file does not have sufficient privileges to have its waveform drawn. It then draws the waveform anyway, but it sure seems like the problem has something to do with permissions. Nonetheless, when we go to the info on the offending mp3s before importing them and change the permissions, it doesn't always solve the problem. The inconsistency is what drives us bats. Interestingly enough, when we download copies of the same files off an ftp site directly to the Logic computer, there are no problems converting them. So, it feels like out best shot is that either the process of emailing is causing the problem or there is a hidden permission feature. Thoughts, ye mavens? Thanks in advance, Michael Levine www.MichaelLevineMusic.com
