One trick I use in creating sustaining notes if they seem to be
obviously looping is to use some reversed sustain sections. The
opposite rhythm is not so noticeable as a repeating rhythm in the
sustain section. I use this a lot when I need to create room silence
and the sound recordist on set didn't record enough room tone so I
need to grab it from the pauses between actors' speech.
