Well, that's totalmix and the configuration tab, but I think you're
actually mixing up something. This multiple card option in totalmix
exists as well for the fireface and the HDSP, but that's only to switch
between devices, without switching the GUI.
It has nothing to do with whether the CoreAudio driver combines multiple
cards together as one. So it's not really true that the driver turnes
them into "one big core audio device" for totalmix , because this
is not
possible (physically). The totalmix dsp is located on the PCI or cardbus
card and only responsible for all channels on one card! Sending and
receiving all channels takes a lot of bandwidth and without an
additional bus connector or a totally hogged PCI bus, there will never
be direct communication between multiple cards except for sync, totalmix
_GUI_ and maybe similar ram allocation :)
This kind of device combining is more something the Motu PCI-424 can do,
not the PCI or cardbus interface for multi-/digiface. But it has other
problems, so I stay with RME or Linx depending on the task.

And as long as you have 10.4 you can use them together as well, after
"aggregating" them. Otherwise both cards will be recognised and
everything, but you wont be able to choose both simultaneously in Logic,
the old problem again.
That was also why I argued with Matthias two years ago, when the
fireface came out and I sold my threepack of Motu 896s. I thought
combining was something that belongs into the driver, but he said it
would be the applications duty.
Well now it's in the OS, so we were both kind of wrong or right, depends
on you point of view :))
