Yes. Unfortunately MOTU apps can't be used with LC Xmu because MOTU in
their infinite wisdom do not support control surfaces used via virtual
CoreMIDI ports - the control surface communication is via hardware
ports only.

There was some complaining about this problem on osxaudio.com and
sonikmatter that I remember.
I'm doing this for a real LC/MC because I want to be able to switch
mine between Logic and TotalMix, and the ability was mostly there in
current LC Xmu betas anyway.

I got the master-fader split working. It requires using the older
Logic 7.0.1 LC control surface plugin (which doesn't do MC-mode), and
booting the LC into Mackie Control mode, so Logic can't aggressively
grab it (I really hope Logic will stop doing this in the future, no
other apps do it without the user's permission). Then LC Xmu can
handle it from there, though realistically only one app should write
to the MC displays & LEDs, otherwise it gets just a bit messy &
confusing. Advanced users only...
In practice, it's also completely workable (and a lot easier to set up
and use) to use LC Xmu's host-switching ability to quickly toggle the
whole surface between hosts, allowing each host to think it has
exclusive use of the LC/MC, with full update on each switch & no midi
conflict.
This currently works well, assigning the LC "user" button to
rotate
between Logic, Cubase, TotalMix, Live 5 etc - though running all four
at once to test is really a strain for my poor old TiBook.
Anyway, LC Xmu 2.0 will offer some useful abilities in these
directions for LC/MC owners.
