MIDI has just 16 channels. You won't go very far and might be forced to
convert them anyway.
Btw, the fader type is not bad. If you have a couple of MIDI devices
they might send a lot of messages and you wouldn't want to change some
parameters by accident just because you step on a pedal.

Yes, if that is easier for you, no problem. You can always switch back
to usual behavior if you want to do more.

First answer: yes.
Second answer: I don't believe it :)
You can copy environment objects between songs. You can even have a
couple of setups in a separate song (on named layers) and import a
certain layer into any song.

It is not easier. And it is surely not better - but it is here.
But you will get "Controller Assignments" which can learn MIDI
messages
for plugins. Unfortunately you cannot store them but for a quick setup
they are ok.
