Subject: Re: Stereo waveform display in Logic Pro 7 - help please.

There are three possible types of audio track objects in Logic. Stereo files behave differently on each. 1. Mono track: if you drag your stereo file onto one of these, it will play back in mono; regardless of it is split or interleaved stereo, or which side you drag onto it. 2. Stereo track with Universal track mode enabled: This is a stereo track, identified by the interlocked circles on the bottom right of the fader. If you drag either an interleaved stereo file or either side of a split stereo file here, they will play back in stereo. There is no need to drag both sides of a split stereo file onto ti. If you zoom in on the waveform in the arrange window, you will indeed see both sides of the file represented in the single overview. 3. Stereo track with Universal track mode disabled: This is the old fashioned way you are probably used to from DP. When you create a stereo track, it grabs the track to it's right and joins it together as a slave track, although there is no separate control over this second track. You can only do this on odd numbered tracks (1, 3, 5, 7 etc). You need to only drag the left side of a split stereo track up onto the arrange window. The right side will follow automatically. You will see both sides as separate files on separate tracks in the arrange window. Interleaved stereo files are not used in this mode. > I CAN, however, drag just one side of a split stereo into the > arrangement but I'm unsure as > to its status. If you drag it onto a stereo track; both sides are playing back as a stereo file. > If I drag both sides then obviously I have two seperate waveforms but > they > don't seem to be paired automatically as an audio assignment. (ch 5+6 > etc...). Turn off Universal Track Mode in the audio hardware drivers page if you want this behavior. > Also do I have to force it to display stereo meters in the channel > strip? The simple act of making it a stero track by clicking the circle at the bottom right will convert the meters into stereo.
