The MH is, depending on your perspective, either more "open" in the air band, which is what my partner in crime thinks, or more "hyped," which is what I think. I just happen to prefer my tones darker, that's all. It sounds great no matter how you label it. The FW1884 has Frontier converters, they've been doing good things for quite a few years now. It's a darker sound, more emphasis on the low-mids with a slightly understated air band. A bit more intimate. Both units are capable of sounding warm and lush. Be warned, the Metric Halo has a reputation for being sketchy with ADAT i/o, and my experience bears that out. Can't get it to work at higher sample rates (I work at 88.2 for tracks, 96k for the 2-mix). The Tascam is an amazing control surface, but it's bulky. The MH is eminently portable. u b i k
