Many video cards that shipped around that time that had two connectors didn't actually have dual desktop ability. The two connectors were merely a convenience (you either connected an analog VGA monitor or a digital ADC monitor) rather than requiring an adaptor. In the case the the monitor really does support dual desktops, and its' set to mirror mode, you need to go to the "Arrangement" section of the monitor control panel in OS9 and drag one square out of the other square to separate them.
