I'd like to preface the below by saying that I have been a happy user and
admirer of Logic for a decade (although, progressively less happy with each
passing year):
Having just suffered the loss of 3 days work for a client due to a serious
bug in Logic Pro, it occurs to me: has anyone ever successfully claimed
compensation from emagic for loss of earnings? At the moment, to me it
certainly doesn't feel like an unreasonable request. I suppose that the
only concession I can make to any blame on my behalf is for not saving my
work out as a *new file* often enough, although I habitually save
("apple/s") my files every 5 minutes or so (hence, the backup file
had
corrupted too). If this was a one off event then I'd be happy to overlook
it, but serious bugs seem to be becoming more and more frequent. As has
been mentioned before on this list, perhaps emagic should dedicate a
development cycle purely to fixing bugs and forget about cramming new
features and with them, more bugs?
Also, just a cautionary note on how I think this particular "circular
structure" bug occurred on this occasion, in case it helps others avoid
the
same problem.
(this was done with "show selected sequences only", although I
don't know if
this is relevant)
1) Created a number of sequences with notes in, and selected some of these
sequences
2) Opened Matrix Editor
3) Double clicked in background, thereby viewing notes in all selected
sequences
4) Selected one of the notes
5) alt/dragged the note to another area in the matrix
6) "Circular Structure" error, followed rapidly by complete file
corruption,
including corrupt "undo history". Any operation within Logic will
result in
a repeat of the "Circular Structure" error message. Quitting and
relaunching results in immediate "Circular Structure" error
message and
corrupted sequences in "Arrange" page.
The above is by no means replicatable every time (or even very often), but
has now happened to me often enough that I have spotted the pattern now
avoid this operation like the plague.
Thanks,
Paul
