Please be careful when telling that "this is just not true".
In fact (maybe just re-read the link I have posted), Apple has released
an update of the AU validation utility - this alone shows, that it
has been around for a while.
All developers had access to the guidelines and the validation tool,
so Apple did not change the rules (as you implied). Usage of AU logo
was always only granted, if the guidelines were met. Now, instead of
implementing further workarounds to solve such issues, Apple have
decided to force compliance with these guidelines (because some
development companies did not care in the past).
Opposite of what you wrote, NI plugins are reporting false values
to AU validator, so in fact, it is their issue - on the other hand,
there are plugins which worked from day 1 because they followed the
rules.
