Here's a situation that I got caught in, that I know at least a dozen other very high level users also got caught in: I used an Ad-Limiter plug-in on a non-compensated track (Bus, Aux, Rewire, etc) and at some later stage, realized something didn't quite sound right-- effects were out of sync, etc. It was only when I looked into it deeper I realized that the Ad-Limiter was adding a fair amount of lookahead, causing the delay. So many people *think* that compensation is only an issue for users of DSP cards, but it effects ALL plug- ins with any lookahead. Point is, delay compensation on bus/aux tracks would have taken care of it. With the release of Digital Performer 4.5, Logic stands as the only major DAW package except PTLE to not offer automatic latency compensation (PT TDM does). This makes mixing in Logic far more tedious than it should be. Logic Pro 7 is an amazing leap forward, a fantastic stepping stone on Logic's path towards elegance, in addition to maintaining its reputation for power and professional quality. ADC for bus/aux tracks is a necessary part of that journey, and I hope that Logic can reach that stepping stone sooner, rather than later. > I also sometimes wonder if some of the people who are shouting for it > are not understanding that it will not help at all for live instruments Good point. People should understand that PLAYBACK delay compensation is just that-- playback only. There's no way any application can automatically compensate for a live signal.
