Hello!
My name is Court. I am a 33 yr old guy who is starting to fire up
his electronic studio again after a 6 year hiatus.
I've been a Logic owner since v4, but, oddly, never really used it.
I was a user of Studio Vision on the mac, and Dr T's (eek!) on ye
olde Atari ST before that. I used to be a somewhat-pro musician who
took a break for a while so he wont lose his family. Thus the day
job.
For the last 2 years I have been basically a hobbyist, by having
Reason on my computer, and using only that. Funny, as I had a slew
of aging equipment sitting in my closet. Well, I sold that
equipment off and am quite happy with a software studio now, with
some well-made hardware controllers. Took some piano lessons for a
change, and now i'm back in the swing of things.
My interests in music are pretty wide ranged and change all the
time. But currently, my projects are aimed at the dancefloor, but
with some freinds who are exceptional players helping me out to
create a nice live feel. Basically drum machines (Battery) hooked
into V-drums, synths played by a my friend the jazz musician, and
i'm the sound designer/producer. It's looking promising.
I have now decided to come forward and introduce myself, as it seems
like an interesting time in Emagic/Apple's development. Of course,
i just bought Logic Pro 5 to find that Apple did their <Snipped by
admin> upgrade announcements that I dont qualify for, but thats ok
as my computer is a bit aged and will wait for my xmas present which
will be a G5 of some sorts, before i upgrade to v7.
So, this leads to my 1st question... are the new iMacs looking
promising as far as the ability to handle a medium-sized software
studio? I usually run about 6-7 softsynths/samplers, some effects,
etc. I would like to have Reason and Reaktor running along with it,
which i cannot to right now with my dual-500 G4. I have about $2000
to spend and the iMac looks appealing in that sense, as i need new
monitors etc. my curved-screen old dell monitors just arent being
nice to my eyes anymore.
I hope in the future to be a useful asset to this users group, i
have about 20 years experience in electronic music, and will be more
than happy to share my knowledge.
Best Regards,
Court
