You need to select a Virtual Instrument, or have a MIDI instrument correctly patched in. To be honest I suggest that you a) read the manual b) search the web for some basic tutorials or alternatively buy some of the ones available Logic Pro is not a pick-up and go program. Perhaps you should start off using something easier like Garage Band to familiarize yourself with the basics digital music before diving head first into Logic.
