When the LC is in Channel Strip View, it normally shows the selected track. So changing the selected track should also change the display in the LC. There is a somewhat hidden feature where you can lock the track shown in Channel Strip View (Cmd-Name/Value gets you a menu with the "Lock" property). Lock should be off by default. In Multi Channel View, the LC normally switches to a fader bank which contains the selected track. AFAIR this is however only the case in Mixer and Arrange Views, but not in Global View (because Global View does not necessarily include the selected track).
