Subject: Re: [LUG] Two copies of Logic on same machine
Message #165889
This is a reply to #165887.
> I have been hearing people talk about using two copies of Logic on the > same machine To my limited knowledge, this rose wears more thorns than leaves. - you can only forward 16 channels of MIDI through the OMS IAC bus to another application. That's hardly enough for the scale this setup is targeted at. - to have more than one instance of EXS active (i.e. in real time play mode) you have to put IO helpers in each of them which eats into your CPU massively. Lets just say it is not designed for that. - to get audio back into the main app you need something like Wormhole et al which does not go without latency and CPU hit. - both copies access the same preferences file (at times which you know, like, when you open or close the app) and the XS key (at times which you don't know, all bets are off here). - you have to use OSX to get it working at all, which does not make sense in anything than a G5-with-*massive*-RAM ballpark. That's an investment which, after all, doesn't exactly blow the idea of a dedicated GS-PC out of the window(s). For the whole story, read here: http://vsl.co.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t%79 This thread is a 12 page monster, but read it to the end, the plot has a few interesting turns...
