I have been hearing people talk about using two copies of Logic on the
same machine (the "John Powell solution".) In this scenario, the
"Instrument" copy has your whole instrument palette while the
"Master"
copy has your sequences and audio files. The reason to do this is to
eliminate the need for outboard sound sources like gigasamplers but
avoid the time-consuming file load times a fully fleshed out template
would require.
[Of course Emagic could make this all irrelevant by simply allowing you
to let instruments that have been instantiated remain so when you
change files, but I wouldn't plan my future on that.]
Has anyone on the list tried it? If so, I have a two questions:
1) I understand the Instrument copy has to stay in play. But how do
you route midi to it from the Master copy? Must you go out of the Mac
and back in again?
2) If you want to have audio recordings on the Master file, how do you
do this? Does it require a separate audio engine?
Anything else you can do to enlighten me, I would appreciate.
Thanks,
Michael A. Levine
